Martha M. Christian, 89, passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, in Newburgh. She was born March 15, 1928, in Centertown, Kentucky, to the late Ottie Welborn and Mary Inez Tichenor Ashby.She was active at the Newburgh Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh. She also was a member of the Mature Adults Class; the Fit over 50 Exercise Class; the Daughters of Isabella #241 of Owensboro; the Blessed Mother Rosary Makers from Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro; and the American Legion Auxiliary #0296 of Centertown.Mrs. Christian also was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Drury William “Bill” Christian, in 2004; a daughter, Janet I. Hould; and siblings, Welborn Lee Ashby, Shelby C. Ashby, Altha Stroud, William Ashby, and J.D. Ashby.Surviving are her children, Paula A. (Christopher) Kern, of Ashland, Virginia, Mark N. (Debbie) Christian, of Zion, Kentucky, and Anthony “Tony” W. (Tammy) Christian, of Newburgh; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh with burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of flowers, or contributions In Memory of Martha M. Mary Louise Greenwell, 80, of Owensboro, passed away at her home on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky.
